How to save the great number of bodies that in the centuries had fallen off, or were thrown out, or jumped out of the yesterday’s towers, or today’s skyscrapers? The artist feels the need to invent a life saving system and it does it through an ironic, but not less functional, metaphor: an overturned soccer goal acts as a safety net, a basket, that symbolically holds and collects everything that has been thrown away. A real ‘monument to the fallen’, that Nacciarriti wants to dedicate to the memory of the Bologna’s soccer player Rino Pagotto, class 1911, and to the team that he improvised during the deportation days in the Nazi lagers. Quelli di Cernauti, to be precise: eleven players and prisoners, confined in the Ukrainian city, that found their way out from the horror of the war through sport.

Come salvare i tanti corpi che nei secoli sono caduti, sono stati gettati, o si sono lanciati dalle torri di ieri, dai grattacieli di oggi? L’artista sente il bisogno di architettare un sistema salvifico e lo fa attraverso una metafora ironica, ma non per questo meno funzionale: ecco che una porta da calcio rovesciata funge da rete di salvataggio, da canestro, che accoglie e raccoglie simbolicamente tutto ciò che viene buttato. Un elemento estraneo e decontestualizzato, doppiamente caro alla Bologna sportiva, rende la torre un vero e proprio ‘monumento ai caduti’, che Nacciarriti vuole dedicare alla memoria del calciatore del Bologna Rino Pagotto, classe 1911, e alla squadra che improvvisò durante i giorni di deportazione nei lager nazisti. Quelli di Cernauti, appunto: undici giocatori e prigionieri, confinati nella città ucraina, che nello sport trovarono la propria via d’uscita dall’orrore della guerra.
